Prequals in for Abu Dhabi gas scheme

Prequalifications were submitted on 28 February to ADNOC Distribution for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and operation and maintenance (O&M) works contract covering the first phase of the Abu Dhabi gas distribution network project. The gas grid will initially cover Abu Dhabi island and the Mussafah industrial area, before being extended in later stages to other areas of the emirate (MEED 3:2:06).

Prospective applicants include the local/Canadian BC Lootah, US-based Willbros, the German office of Paris-based Technip, Contracting & Trading Company (CAT) of Lebanon, Larsen & Toubro and Punj Lloyd, both of India, and Al-Jaber Energy Services and Dodsal, both local.

Applications were submitted for one or more of the three packages. They are:Package 1, EPC of the steel pipe network and pressure reduction stations. It covers: the installation of 25 kilometres of 24-inch-diameter steel pipeline in Abu Dhabi City and 28 kilometres of steel pipeline, with diameters of six-18 inches, in the Mussafah industrial area; construction of primary pressure reduction stations and secondary reduction stations; and the installation of service lines to two industrial users in the industrial area;Package 2, EPC works for a polyethylene (PE) pipe distribution network and customer meter installation. It covers: the installation of 350 kilometres of PE pipe mains in Abu Dhabi City and Mussafah; the installation of about 2,500 customer meters; and the conversion of existing bottled gas networks to natural gas;Package 3, O&M of the phase 1 network.

The UK's Hyder is the project manager; Canada's Terasen International is the front-end engineering and design (FEED) contractor.
