Prequals invited for Mina al-Fahal

30 May 2003
Oman Refinery Company (ORC)has invited contractors to prequalify by 23 June for the contract to install a 10,000-barrel-a-day (b/d) isomerisation unit at the Mina al-Fahal refinery. Feedstock for the unit will come from a mixture of light naphtha, already produced at Mina al-Fahal, and condensate supplied by Oman LNG. Front-end engineering and design (FEED) studies for the unit are being drawn up by Granherne & Companyof the US (MEED 20:12:02).

In addition to the main isomerisation unit, the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract calls for the installation of new condensate export and storage facilities and associated offsites and utilities. The selected contractor will also revamp the refinery's existing naphtha hydrotreater, cracker and gas tail units.

ORC is investing heavily to upgrade the ageing 85,000-b/d refinery. Tendering is under way for a debottlenecking FEED contract. South Korea's SK Engineering & Constructionis expected to complete in December the installation of an 18,000-b/d diesel hydro-desulphurisation unit that will produce low sulphur diesel (MEED 16:5:03; 7:6:02).
