Prequals launched for main package on Burj Dubai

Local property developer Emaar Properties has invited companies to apply for prequalification by 15 December for the main package contract on the proposed Burj Dubai project - set to be the tallest tower in the world (MEED 21:11:03).

The companies invited to prequalify for the contract are understood to includethe local/South African joint venture Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprises with Murray & Roberts Contractors (Middle East), the local/Australian Nasa Multiplex, the local/Belgian Bel Hasa Six Construct, Al-Naboodah Laing O' Rourke and Dutco Balfour Beatty, both local/UK, Grocon of Australia, Hyundai Engineering & Construction Company, Samsung Engineering Corporation and Ssangyong Engineering & Construction Company, all of South Korea,and Taisei Corporation, Obayashi, Takenaka Corporation, Shimizu and Kumagai Gumi Company, all of Japan; and up to four Malaysian companies.

The main contract will call for the construction of a landmark tower at least 800 metres high, a podium, aquatic features, pedestrian boulevards and car parks. The complex will be built over an area of 14 million square feet. Bids are already under evaluation for the piling and foundations package.

The US' Skidmore Owings & Merrill is the architectural design consultant; the project manager is Turner International, also of the US.
