Prequals over for Gasco OGD-3/AGD-2 package

11 July 2003
Six companies have been prequalified for the fifth engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) package on the third phase of the onshore gas development (OGD-3) and the second phase of the Asab gas development (AGD-2) projects in Abu Dhabi (MEED 6:6:03).

Called EPC 5, the contract covers the construction of tanks at Ruwais for the storage of condensate and tie-ins with product lines. Worth about $70 million, the contract is due to go for tender in late 2003. The client is Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (Takreer).

The estimated $2,300 million OGD-3/AGD-2, which will produce additional volumes of condensate and natural gas liquids (NGL) from onshore fields, will be carried out in five packages.

The four other packages are:

EPC 1, which calls for the construction of gas-gathering and sour injection facilities at Habshan;

EPC 2, which covers the construction of condensate and NGL recovery facilities and an NGL pipeline at Habshan;

EPC 3, which calls for the construction of NGL recovery facilities and pipelines at Asab; EPC 4, which covers the construction of a new NGL fractionation train, storage, a berth and a jetty at Ruwais.

Prequalification lists for packages 1-4 are due to be announced soon.

Four international companies - Kvaerner E&C, part of the Oslo-based Aker Kvaernergroup, and Foster Wheeler, VECOand Parsons, all US-based - have responded to an inquiry for a contract to provide project management consultancy (PMC) services for the first EPC package. The client is Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations (Adco).

Bechtelof the US has completed the front-end engineering and design (FEED) studies for the scheme. The overall project manager is Foster Wheeler; the overall client is Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Company (Gasco - 8:5:03).
