Prime minister calls for improved public transport system in Amman

29 November 2007
Jordan’s new prime minister Nader Dahabi has called for the capital Amman to get a modern public transport system to persuade more commuters to leave their cars at home.

In one of his first actions since becoming prime minister on 25 November, Dahabi met Amman mayor Omar Manni and members of the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) to argue the case for public transport in the capital.
Dahabi praised the Amman Master Plan, which was published in June 2006, as the way to manage the capital’s growth.
The Ministry of Finance sent the draft budget for 2008 to Dahabi’s new cabinet for approval on 29 November.
The cabinet has two weeks to debate the budget before it is sent to parliament for a vote.
