Prysmian to install Doha’s first submarine power cable

Italy’s Prysmian Cables & Systems has been awarded a $195m contract to install Doha’s first ever submarine power cable.

The turnkey contract requires the engineering, marine and land surveys, procurement and cable construction, submarine and land installation, and commissioning for 63 kilometres of 220kV submarine and underground power cables.

Installation works will start in 2009 and are due to be completed at the end of 2010.

The cables will be manufactured at Prysmian’s cable plant in Italy.

Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) is the client.
