Thailand considering imports of 1 million tonnes a year from Qatar

Thailand’s government-owned energy firm PTT is still in negotiations with Qatargas over long-term LNG contracts, a PTT executive said, contradicting an earlier statement by the company executive.

“We are still talking with Qatargas now for the long term … but I don’t want to touch on the details. There is no cancellation,” Reuters quotes Terdkiat Prommool, vice-president of PTT’s LNG supply department.

Wichai Pornkeratiwat, senior executive vice-president for gas business, had earlier in September told the press that PTT has cancelled a 2008 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreement on the supply of 1 million tonnes a year (t/y) from Qatar, to commence late in 2011. Rising prices had forced the company to turn to two other suppliers, he said.
