Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company will replace Chinese contractor for three packages

Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) has been awarded three contracts totalling $175m on the New Doha International airport (NDIA) project.

The three contracts are for the construction of a main fire station, a second fire station, airport surveillance radar building, administration blocks, a medical centre and employee village, general aviation hangar, general aviation terminal and a solid waste handling facility.

The works, which will take 15 months to complete, also involve the construction of other miscellaneous buildings and external works including utilities, landscaping, road works and car park shade structures.

CCC will replace China State Construction Engineering Corporation that had its contract for the work terminated in October 2010. The Beijing-based contractor was given notice to proceed on the contract by the project client, the NDIA steering committee, in January 2010 (MEED 29:10:10).

CCC won a $46m contract to build the air traffic control building at NDIA in 2006.

US-based Bechtel is the engineering, procurement and construction management contractor on the NDIA project.
