Qatar invites bids for port maintenance works

Excavation work at New Doha port is under way

Qatar’s Public Works Authority is inviting contractors to submit bids by 5 July for the general maintenance works of the container terminal at Doha port.

The work includes the removal of interlocking pavers between the quay wall and the rail rack, disposal of debris from removal works, repairing of asphalt road, replacement of fire boxes and bollards, as well as mechanical and electrical works.

The work will be carried out without any disruption to the operations of the port. The New Doha port is currently under construction.

China Harbour Engineering & Construction won the $880m construction contract to carry out excavation works at the port in January (MEED 26:1:11). The scope of the project includes the excavation of 58 million cubic metres of material covering an area of 3.2 square kilometres and to a depth of 18 metres and build 8 kilometres of quay wall, and a 5km-long rubble breakwater.
