Qatar invites contractors to bid on Orbital road

04 December 2012

Work will involve building 28km of highway

Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has invited contractors to submit bids for the contract to build part of the Orbital Highway.

Contractors have until 18 February 2013 to submit prices for the tender. The work will involve building a 28km stretch of road, which will include five lanes and two truck lanes. The road will also contain five cloverleaf-type junctions.

The Orbital road is part of Ashghal’s plans to spend QR100bn ($27.5bn) in this period on upgrading the country’s roads and drainage infrastructure over the next five years. The programme will include the Doha Expressway programme, which will include more than 30 major road projects.

In May, Ashghal awarded the QR3.5bn main construction contract for the Lusail Expressway project in Doha to South Korea’s Hyundai Engineering & Construction.
