Public Works Authority will prequalify contractors for construction packages on major road projects
Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has invited contractors to prequalify for the construction packages on its estimated $12.2bn expressway programme.
Contractors have until 18 August to submit prequalification documents construction projects on the expressway programme, which covers 30 major highway projects planned in Doha over the next five to seven years.
Ashghal will prepare shortlists of prequalified contractors in two different categories. The authority will draw up a shortlist of prequalified companies for conventional construction categories, and a category of contractors for design and build packages.
Ashghal recently invited consultants to prequalify for the consultancy contracts for the expressway programme. The authority will prequalify design consultants and supervision consultants for conventional construction packages, and will also prequalify consultants for procurement and supervision of design and build packages (MEED 10:6:11).
In February, Ashghal awarded US-based KBR a QR491.4m ($135m) project management contract for the 30 expressway projects planned for the Gulf state up to 2015. The majority of the major highway projects planned will form part of the Doha Expressway.
