Seven contractors were invited to bid for the refinery package last month, with QP hosting tours of the site on 8-9 July.

The companies include Italy’s Snamprogetti, Paris-based Technip, the US’ Bechtel, Japan’s JGC Corporation and GS Engineering & Construction, Hyundai Engineering & Construction Company and SK Engineering & Construction, all three from South Korea.

Technical bids are due to be submitted on 12 October with commercial bids to be filed on 21 January 2009.

US-based Jacobs Engineering, with Beicip of France, undertook the pre-front-end engineering and design (FEED) package, while the FEED and project management contractor is Technip (MEED 22:9:07).

The 250,000-barrel-a-day (b/d) refinery will produce distillates, bitumen and green coke.
