08 July 2008
Selected contractors have been invited to tour the site of Qatar Petroleum's (QP) proposed $5bn Al-Shaheen grassroots refinery, in preparation for the submission of technical bids for the main construction package later this year.

Seven contractors were invited to bid for the refinery package last month, with QP hosting tours of the site on 8-9 July.

The companies include Italy's Snamprogetti, Paris-based Technip, the US' Bechtel, Japan's JGC Corporation and GS Engineering & Construction, Hyundai Engineering & Construction Company and SK Engineering & Construction, all three from South Korea.

Technical bids are due to be submitted on 12 October with commercial bids to be filed on 21 January 2009.

US-based Jacobs Engineering, with Beicip of France, undertook the pre-front-end engineering and design (FEED) package, while the FEED and project management contractor is Technip (MEED 22:9:07).

The 250,000-barrel-a-day (b/d) refinery will produce distillates, bitumen and green coke.
