Qatar receives bids for Education City car park

30 May 2011

At least seven contractors have submitted bids for the project

Astad, the project management arm of Qatar Petroleum, has received bids from contractors for the main construction package on the estimated $225m West Car Park development in Doha’s Education City.

The West Car Park will have four levels above ground and will be located in Education City, a 14-square-kilometre development on the western edge of Doha.

At least seven contractors submitted bids for the project on 22 May.

The bidders include:

  • Al-Jaber & Partners (local)
  • Carillion (UK)
  •  Consolidated Contracting Group (CCC) (Athens-based)
  •  Man Enterprises (Lebanon)
  • Midmac Contracting Company (local)
  • Yuksel Insaat (Turkey)
  • TAV (Turkey)

This is the second car park project that Astad has tendered for its Education City development. In October last year, it received bids from at least nine contractors to build the estimated QR800m ($219.7m) North East underground car park.

The underground car park will have two levels, which will cover a total area of approximately 94,000 sq m. The project manager is still currently considering the bids for the project.

Astad is managing the planned projects at Education City on behalf of the Qatar Foundation, Science and Social Development.

Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) was recently awarded an estimated QR775m ($212m) contract to build the Faculty of Islamic Studies in the southern zone of Education City.

It will include classrooms, an auditorium, exhibition space, faculty offices, a mosque and an underground car park. The project is expected to cover an area of 55,980 square metres and is scheduled for completion by August 2012 (MEED 6:5:11).
