Qatar receives bids for electricity company headquarters

State utilities company will have new headquarters in the Lusail district

The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has received bids for the contract to build a new headquarters building on the Lusail development.

Contractors submitted bids on the 10 October for the contract to build the 20-storey tower on the Lusail development. As of 13 October, no information on bidders and prices was available.

The tower comprises a ground level, mezzanine, 19 upper floors and a technical floor of a total approximate area of about 43,000 square feet. There are also five basement levels comprising approximately 42,000 feet.

In June, Kahramaa sought expressions of interest for two schemes, including the first new independent water and power project (IWPP) in the country since 2008.

The IWPP, being built south of Doha near Mesaieed, will have a power capacity of 2,000MW and a desalination capacity of 90 million gallons a day (g/d).The other project is a 45 million g/d desalination plant at Ras Laffan, north of Doha. The latter plant will be used for industrial purposes and will include an expansion option that would double its capacity
