Dozens of projects under way for road and expressway masterplans

Qatar’s Public Works Ministry (Ashghal) is seeking firms by 25 December for the supply, installation and maintenance of a street lighting system across the country.

The lighting system, which will include high masts, conventional and decorative columns and luminaires, will be installed on highways, internal roads and bridges, and in tunnels and underpasses.

The entire work is expected to be completed within three years of contract award. The deal will include a 400-day maintenance period.

The tender is open to local companies only.

Qatar is in the middle of delivering dozens of road and street network packages totalling close to $40bn, according to regional projects tracker MEED Projects. These schemes include the $10.4bn tunnel packages for the Doha Metro. The rest of the projects are packages under the country’s Expressway Programme and Local Roads and Drainage Programme (LRDP).

In August, Ashghal tendered a contract for the maintenance and rehabilitation of all major and minor roads in the country.
