Qatar seeks firms for tunnels package

Client expects to receive bids by 24 December

Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has invited firms to bid by 24 December for the contract to develop and implement a mechanical and electrical and intelligent transport system (ITS) equipment maintenance programme for several tunnels in the country.

The tunnels for which the intensive equipment maintenance package is being planned are:

  • Ras Abu Abboud tunnel
  • Mall of Qatar tunnel
  • Other tunnel or group of tunnels, including new ones, that may be incorporated into the contract in the future

According to Ashghal, the project is to be executed within roughly two years from the date of contract award.

An estimated $24.8bn-worth of road projects are underway in Qatar, while close to $1.8bn are at the procurement stage, according to data from regional projects tracker MEED Projects.

A further $13.3bn-worth of road schemes are in the prequalification stage.
