Qatar to tender Islamic studies centre contract by the end of May

21 April 2010

Faculty of Islamic Studies will be located in Education City

Qatar Petroleum (QP) expects to issue tender documents by the end of May for the main construction contract for the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies at Education City on the outskirts of Doha.

The state firm invited contractors to submit an expression of interest for the project by 8 April.

QP expects to award the main construction contract in September this year, and the project is scheduled for completion by August 2012.

The Faculty of Islamic Studies, which will located in the southern zone of Education City, will include classrooms, auditorium, exhibition space, faculty offices, a mosque and an underground car park.

The project is expected to cover an area of 55,980 square metres.

QP is managing the construction of the project on behalf of the Qatar Foundation for Education Science & Community Development.

QP is also expected to issue tender documents by the end of April for the main construction contract for the new Qatar National Museum. Eight contractors have prequalified for the tender.

Designed by French architect Jean Nouvel, the museum will be built on two plots of land next to the existing Qatar National Museum. The two plots on the corniche cover an area of about 150,000 sq m, separated by Al-Muthaf Road.

QP is managing the construction of the museum on behalf of Qatar Museum Authority (MEED 15:4:10).
