LNG company to supply 1 million tonnes-a-year to Japanese power provider
Qatar Liquefied Gas Company has agreed a 15-year deal with Japan’s Chubu Electric Power Company that will see the company provide 1 million tonnes-a-year of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The agreement will start in 2013 and the LNG will come from the Qatargas 3 train, which is located at Ras Laffan in Qatar.
Qatargas already has several existing deals in place with Chubu Electric including one signed in 2011 in partnership with another Japanese power provider, Shizuoka Gas Company.
Japan is the world’s largest importer of LNG and Asian LNG prices hit highs of $18 per million British thermal units during 2012.
