Qatar Investments & Projects Development Holding Company (Qipco)has issued tender documents for its office building in West Bay, inviting prequalifiers to submit bids by 13 November. About eight international companies are prequalified for the contract to build the 50-storey building, which has been designed in the shape of a tornado and will comprise a reinforced concrete core with a structural steel frame (MEED 15:7:05).
Prequalifiers include the UAE's Arabtec Construction, Bayturof Turkey, Belgium's Six Construct, Austria's Strabagand Japan's Taisei Corporation. The client is looking to award the contract by year-end. Various packages, including foundations, structural steel, curtain walling and elevators, will be assigned to the main contractor by the client. The building will have an above ground floor area of 82,700 square metres, in addition to 20,000 square metres in the two-level basement. Construction work on the two-year contract is scheduled to begin by the end of the year. Germany's SIATis the consultant for all pre-contract services and is being assisted by the local Cico.
