Bids for the phase 6 extension of Saudi Electricity Company’s (SEC) Rabigh power plant are due on 20 August.
Four potential bidders have bought the tender documents for the engineering, procurement and construction project from the client.
The companies are South Korea’s Hanwha Engineering & Construction with the local Arabian Bemco Contracting Company; Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries; Marubeni Corporation, also of Japan; and China’s Sepco 3 Electric Power Construction Corporation.
SEC had originally planned to tender the project as a 1,200MW main package with a second optional 1,200MW package. Now the utility is asking for one bid for a plant with capacity of 2,200-2,640MW.
The original bid deadline was extended from May.
