A key person driving the development of Oman’s tourism sector
Rajiha Abdulameer Ali
Position: Tourism Minister
Biography: Rajiha Abdulameer Ali has been Oman’s Tourism Minister since the ministry was set up in 2004. She is also chairperson of the Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran).
The Tourism Ministry plans to attract 12 million visitors to Oman by 2020 and is working on a number of initiatives. It is tendering a number of contracts to upgrade tourist sites and build new facilities. These include the renovation of the Muttrah fort in Greater Muttrah, and the development of the corniche at Al-Ashkarah. Prior to her current role, Abdulameer Ali was the undersecretary for development affairs for the Economic Ministry. Before this, she was the undersecretary for statistics and information affairs for the Development Ministry. Abdulameer Ali is also a member of the Council of Ministers and the Economic Coordination Council.
She graduated in 2004 from the UK’s University of Exeter with a doctorate in economics.
