Biography: Rakesh Gothi studied engineering at Chennai in India and went on to further his education with a master’s degree in engineering at the University of California, Berkeley and a master’s of business administration at the University of Minnesota in the US.
Gothi has extensive experience in working with industrial fibres. Before joining India’s JBF Industries, Gothi worked for Kanpur-based synthetic fibre manufacturer JK Synthetic as vice president and for a spell was also general manager for industrial fabric manufacturer Nirlon, based in Mumbai. He joined polyester maker JBF Industries in 1997.
JBF Industries operates a 472,000 t/y PET plant in Ras al-Khaimah in the UAE. The plant produces 400,000 t/y of PET chips and 72,000 t/y of polyester film.
The company is also planning to build a 1.2 million t/y purified terephthalic acid facility in Oman in a joint venture with the Oman Oil Company.
