Ras al-Zour pipeline deadline delayed

08 April 2008
The deadline for bids for the project to build the Ras al-Zour water pipeline has been extended until mid-June while issues over the selection of its route are resolved.

Proposals were originally due to be submitted on 1 April but have been delayed to give the consultant on the project, Germany’s ILF Consulting Engineers, time to prepare changes to the tender.

The estimated $300m project involves the construction of a transmission system to pump 220 million gallons a day of water from the planned independent water and power project in Ras al-Zour to Riyadh.

The successful bidder will build a 268-kilometre pipeline from Ras Al-Zour to Al-Jandalia, and a 213-kilometre pipeline from there to Riyadh. The client is the Saline Water Conversion Corporation. (MEED 12:10:07).
