Spanish firm signs for Piramagrun and Qala Dze blocks
Spain’s Repsol has signed an agreement with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) for two exploration blocks in the semi-autonomous area of northern Iraq.
Repsol has been in talks with the KRG for more than a year for the Piramagrun and Qala Dze blocks, which cover more than 2,700 square kilometres in the west of the Kurdistan region, according to a 28 July company statement.
No further details were available from Repsol.
The Spanish firm is one of the largest of more than 35 international oil companies to sign a deal with the KRG, despite opposition from the federal government in Baghdad (MEED 11:2:11).
