Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) issued a formal request for proposals (RFP) on 30 June for two separate logistics projects in the Aqaba special economic zone (ASEZ). Eight companies are prequalified for each contract and have been given a month to submit bids. Awards are due in the third quarter.
The first 10-year contract is to equip and operate the existing cargo terminal at King Hussain International Airport (KHIA), while for the second project, the successful bidder will form a joint venture with ADC to develop, operate and manage the existing logistics park. Both projects will target increased freight requirements in the region, particularly from the reconstruction programme in Iraq. The two projects are in keeping with ADC's strategy to get private sector involvement in key transport and logistics facilities in the ASEZ (MEED 29:4:05). www.meed.com/transport
