RFQs in for brownfield IWPP

07 October 2005
Requests for qualification (RFQs) have been submitted to the Ministry of National Economy for the sultanate's brownfield independent water and power project (IWPP). The government's schedule sees a request for proposals (RFP) being issued in mid-late October with responses due towards the end of the first quarter of 2006.

The project calls for the acquisition of the existing 668-MW government power station at Rusayl and implementation of an IWPP at Barka with capacity of 500 MW and 150 million gallons a day (g/d).

The deadline for responses to the RFQ for the other private utilities project under way in the sultanate, the Sharqiyah independent water project (IWP), has been extended to 10 October. The scheme calls for construction of a desalination plant with capacity of 15 million g/d (MEED 19:8:05).
