September inflation numbers show prices up by 0.5 per cent
Inflation in the UAE climbed to 0.5 per cent in September compared to the previous month as housing costs are starting to put upward pressure on the inflation rate in the country, according to official data.
Housing costs rose 0.3 per cent at the national level, while food prices rose 0.5 per cent in September. The biggest monthly increase was in education costs, which jumped 4.4% as fee increases at the start of the new academic year kicked in. This is a one-off, annual item, that only appears in September and will not contribute to inflation in the coming months.
