Located in Dariyyah, 30 kilometres northwest of Riyadh, the work covers the construction of at least three sets of museums and further redevelopment of the site.
A visitors' reception area and numerous other buildings are also planned. The site covers 170,000 square metres.
The client is the ArRiyadh Development Authority (ADA).
The UK’s Buro Happold is the engineer on the project, which also features involvement from Canada’s Lord Cultural Resources and the US’ Ayers Saing Gross.
According to David Gillies, project manager at Buro Happold, ADA is attempting to get accreditation from Unesco, to mark the site's historical significance.
