Riyadh vows to defeat terrorism

15 August 2003
Crown Prince Abdullah has said that the kingdom will crush terrorism, and that the country is suffering from a struggle between 'the powers of good versus evil'. Issuing a warning on 14 August, he said there could be more attacks in the country, and said also that those who sympathised with terrorism were themselves terrorists. 'In the struggle between forces of good and evil, there is no room for being neutral or hesitant,' he said.

The announcement by Crown Prince Abdullah comes one day after British Airways cancelled all flights to the country amid intelligence that there was a serious risk posed to British planes in the country. This intelligence has been strongly condemned by the authorities in Riyadh. Interior Minister, Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz, the said that there was no information about any plan to attack an airport or aircraft in the country, despite claims by UK and US officials, who said their intelligence came from Saudi authorities.
