04 August 2006

Dubai's Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has issued tender documents for five contracts to upgrade various road projects across the emirate. The largest package is the interchange 1 redevelopment on Sheikh Zayed road.

For the Interchange 1 contract, which represents a retender, bids are due to be submitted on 20 August. The contract is the sixth and final phase of the Ras al-Khor crossing scheme and involves the upgrade of Interchange 1, also known as Defence roundabout, into a free-flowing junction. De Leuw Cather International, part of the US' Parsons International, is the consultant (MEED 14:7:06).

Bids are due on 20 August for a contract at Dubai International Airport covering the improvement and reconstruction of the intersection linking Beirut road and Al-Nahda road. The project involves the construction of a tunnel, bridge and other associated works including roadway signage and landscaping.

In Al-Sufouh, companies have been invited to retender by 27 August for the improvement of roads in the area. The contract involves the construction of roads connecting Al-Sufouh with Dubai Marina, the marina with Jumeirah Beach road across a new bridge and the demolition of the existing temporary structure. The local Wade Adams Contracting was the sole bidder with a price of AED 295 million ($80 million) when the contract was first priced in June. France's Systra is the consultant (MEED 30:6:06).

Companies have been invited to bid by 13 August to carry out beautification works in the Mina area along Jumeirah Beach road, Al-Wasl road, Al-Diyafah street, and Mina road. De Leuw Cather is also advising on the Al-Quoz parallel roads scheme, for which companies have been invited to bid by 27 August (MEED 19:5:06).
