Biography: The first major packages on the Doha metro scheme are set to be awarded in the first quarter of 2013. The contracts for work on the red, green and golden lines are expected to be some of the largest construction contracts awarded in the region next year as Qatar’s preparations to host football’s 2022 Fifa World Cup start to gather pace.

The man overseeing the metro scheme is Saad Ahmed al-Mohannadi, who was appointed CEO of QRail in July 2012. He is responsible for several major projects in the country including the Doha metro, long-distance passenger and freight lines, the West Bay people-mover and the Lusail light-rail transit system.

Al-Mohannadi previously worked at Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa), where he was director of technical affairs from September 2008. He began his career as a network control engineer at Qatar’s Electricity Ministry from 1997 to 2001.
