Position: Founder, Emirates Green Building Council
Biography: Sadek Owainati is an environmental assessor and independent engineering consultant with 42 years’ experience in construction.
He is a founder member of the Emirates Green Building Council. He moved to the UAE in 1979 to join Abu Dhabi National Oil Company as a project manager before being seconded in 1983 to Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company, where he worked until 1990. He served as a World Bank expert on environmental studies from 1995 to 1996. For four years, he was deputy general manager of Al-Naboodah Contracting in the UAE.
Previously, he was projects director with Arkiteknik International Consulting Engineers. Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai was one of several major projects completed under his direction.
He is a graduate of the University of Baghdad, where he taught after receiving his doctorate from London’s Imperial College in 1973.
