Saipem in line for Sirri pipeline package

03 June 2003
Italy's Saipemis close to being awarded the offshore pipeline package on the Sirri natural gas liquids (NGL) development. Saipem will be assisted on the contract, valued at just under $50 million, by the UAE's Gulf Marine (Gulmar)and the local Petrochemical Industrial Design & Engineering Company (PIDEC- MEED 15:2:02).

The project involves the installation of an 80-kilometre-long, 12-inch-diameter subsea pipeline connecting Sirri to onshore facilities. These will include gas-gathering stations, pipelines and storage units and offshore gas-compression platforms. The work has not yet been awarded.

The Sirri gas-gathering network will have capacity of around 140 million cubic feet a day (cf/d). It is a smaller version of the Kharg Island NGL project, for which no awards have yet been made. However, speed is of the essence as the downstream elements of the project - involving a major petrochemical complex on Kharg Island - are already moving towards construction.

The client for both projects is Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC).
