Italian contractor Saipem charters offshore rigs to operators in Abu Dhabi and Egypt

Saipem has been awarded drilling contracts in the UAE, Egypt, Ecuador and Italy worth a total of more than $200m, says the Italian oil and gas contractor.

Abu Dhabi’s state-owned National Drilling Company (NDC) chartered Saipem’s Perro Negro 3 jack-up rig for offshore drilling in the emirate. The 36-month contract starts from the first quarter of 2013.

Saipem has also won a contract with France’s GDF Suez for the charter of the Scarabeo 4 semi-submersible rig for offshore activities in Egypt. That contract covers three months during the third and fourth quarters of 2012.

At the same time, the contractor was awarded an 18-month charter of a jack-up rig in offshore Ecuador and six contracts in onshore drilling in South America and Italy, each starting in the second half of 2012.
