Takreer also evaluates bids for marine work and storage tanks

Abu Dhabi Refining Company (Takreer) has awarded South Korea’s Samsung Engineering Company a contract for an offsites and utilities package on the $10bn Ruwais refinery expansion project.

Samsung was awarded the contract after submitting the low bid of under $3bn. The package covers process and safety facilities such as water-cooling and gas-flaring systems. Other bidders on this package were South Korea’s Daelim Corporation, Spain’s TR and Italy’s Techint.

Takreer is also assessing bids for two other packages covering the marine facilities and tank work. The company is expected to award the contracts before the end of the year (MEED 13:11:09).

Four firms are bidding for the marine work and six contractors have bid for construction of the storage tanks.

The expansion of the Ruwais refinery will increase its capacity by 400,000 barrels a day (b/d) to 817,000 b/d when it comes on line in 2014.

South Korea’s SK Engineering & Construction has also been awarded a $2.1bn contract to build a crude-distillation unit and associated downstream units, and GS Engineering & Construction was awarded a $3.1bn contract to build a residual fluid catalytic cracker unit (MEED 05:11:09).
