South Korean contractor will build bridges and roads at Lusail real estate project

South Korea’s Samsung C&T has been awarded two further construction contracts at the Lusail development in Qatar.

The South Korean contractor has been awarded contracts for construction packages 3A and 5B.

Construction package 3A involves the construction of six bridges, two of which will be suspension bridges. Package 5B will involve building highways, underground motorways and electricity distribution plants on the Qetaifan Islands area of Lusail City.

Samsung has been awarded several contracts on the real estate project. In January, it won a $296m contract to build primary infrastructure on the Lusail development involving the construction of a 10.7-kilometre-long road, which will include 1.5km of underground motorway.

The Lusail City scheme is one of the biggest commercial projects in the Middle East. Located 22km north of Doha, the scheme covers a total area of 35 square kilometres and is planned to eventually house up to 200,000 people.

The Lusail project is planned to be executed in phases over the next 10 years and will contain residential clusters, commercial districts, shopping and leisure facilities, and two golf courses. The masterplan divides the waterfront development into 19 integrated and mixed-use districts.

The real estate scheme is being developed by the Lusail Real Estate Development Company, which is a subsidiary of the state-backed real estate developer Qatari Diar.
