SaudConsult appointed for Shamieh

Saudi Consulting Services (SaudConsult) has been awarded a contract to carry out engineering works involving a major infrastructure development project at Shamieh in Mecca. The scope of works includes construction of roads, bridges, spines and utilities over a 1.3 million-square-metre area and the upgrade and refurbishment of existing facilities.

The project cost is about SR 700 million-1,000 million ($187 million-267 million) and will take about two years to complete. Jordan's Dar al-Omranis the masterplan architect; the client is Lebanon's Millennium Group.

More projects are planned at Shamieh. Emaar International Development, part of Dubai-based real estate developer, Emaar Properties, with the local Al-Oula Groupis due soon to officially appoint a project manager for its proposed major real estate development.

Estimated to cost SR 10,000 million ($2,665 million), the scheme will involve the construction of residential, retail and related facilities, alongside transport corridors to carry pilgrims.
