Muhammad Ali Albakri
Position Vice president of IT, Saudi Arabian Airlines
Biography Muhammad Ali Albakri is the vice president for IT at Saudi Arabian Airlines, where he has worked for the past two decades. He is responsible for managing the IT services, applications and infrastructure of the entire company. Albakri has a master’s degree in information systems from the University of Pittsburgh in the US. He joined the airline after graduating and has held several management positions including chief of systems engineering and architecture, and general manager for the airline’s applications development. In his current role as vice president, Albakri executed the company’s IT master plan. This included an upgrade to its global infrastructure and re-engineering a wide range of technology systems and processes. Saudi Arabian Airlines is one of the largest airlines in the region with a fleet of 140 aircraft.

Position Director of IT, Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Maaden)
Biography Abdullah Alsogheyer is the director of IT at Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Maaden). He is responsible for the mining company’s IT strategy and the integration of its corporate and affiliates’ global IT systems. After graduating from the King Saud University in 1990, Alsogheyer began his career at Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (Sama), the kingdom’s central bank and became the leader of the stock market software development team. After leaving Sama in 1995, he worked as an IT consultant for five years with US defence firm Thomson CSF. Before joining Maaden in 2005, Alsogheyer was the IT manager for Saudi Arabia’s National Agricultural Development Company from 2003. He is currently working on rolling out enterprise resource planning software for Maaden Aluminium Companies and Maaden Industrial Minerals Company.

Position Chief information officer, Etihad-Etisalat Company (Mobily)
Biography Medhat Amer has been chief information officer (CIO) at Saudi mobile operator Mobily since 2009. He is responsible for providing business and operations solutions and support systems to grow Mobily’s customer base. Amer has 20 years’ experience in the IT sector. He became managing director of the Netherlands-based Scala Business Solutions’ Middle East and North Africa operations in 1999. Amer joined US-based Microsoft’s Saudi division as enterprise and partner group director in 2000. He later joined Zain Jordan in 2004 as CIO. In 2008, Amer became general manager for Wimax operator Mada Jordan. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Jordan in 1991. Amer has also completed leadership programmes at the London School of Economics in the UK and Harvard University in the US.

Position CIO, Bank Albilad
Biography Rashed al-Othman has been CIO at Saudi Arabia’s Bank Albilad since 2010. He is responsible for areas such as e-commerce, internet banking, call centre technologies and business process re-engineering. Al-Othman has more than 26 years’ experience in the IT sector and began his career at Saudi Customs as technical service branch manager in 1984. He was promoted to technical services assistant manager in 1991 when he planned and supervised the Saudi Customs’ system and network expansion. In 1994, Al-Othman was appointed senior manager at Riyadh-based Samba Bank, working in the technical support unit, where he managed three different teams. Al-Othman left to become senior vice-president of IT at Riyad Bank in 1998. He remained with the firm for more than 11 years. Al-Othman has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in computer science from Arkansas State University in the US.

Position CIO, Zamil Industrial Investment Company
Biography Zaki Sabbagh is CIO at Saudi Arabia’s Zamil Industrial Investment Company, where he manages a team of about 80 people. Sabbagh has restructured the group’s IT functions, consolidating all of its global IT departments into one and implementing a shared services model that provides an IT platform across the entire organisation. He began his career as an engineering programmer at Zamil Steel in 1994. Later he was promoted to IT manager and relocated to Egypt, where the firm had opened a new factory in 1999. While in Egypt, Sabbagh established data centres and implemented an enterprise resource plan and in-house application localisation. He continued in this role until 2001 when he was promoted to his current position. Sabbagh has a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Notre Dame University in Lebanon.

Position CIO, Ministry of Education
Biography Jarallah Alghamdi has been CIO at the Saudi Ministry of Education since 2007. He is responsible for managing the technology infrastructure and applications for the ministry’s administrative sectors and departments. Alghamdi is also in charge of technology infrastructure and applications for more than 33,000 of the country’s schools. Prior to taking up this role, he chaired the information and computer science department at the Dhahran-based King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) from 1996-2000. Alghamdi was then the dean of the college of computer sciences and engineering at KFUPM until 2007. He has a bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering from KFUPM. Alghamdi completed a master’s degree in the same field in 1986 and has a doctorate in computer science from Arizona State University in the US.
