Houthi rebels targeted hours after reports that forces had ended military operations
The Saudi Arabia-led coalition has resumed air-strikes in Yemen less than 24 hours after stating it had ended military operations in the country.
Jets bombed Houthi rebels in the city of Taiz, Yemens third largest, after the Iran-backed Shia fighters had wrested control of a base occupied by an army unit loyal to incumbent President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi.
Another bombing raid focused on rebels and personnel allied to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh in central Taiz.
The coalition spokesman, Brigadier-General Ahmed al-Asiri, said in a statement that the bombing raids were part of a new operation called renewal of Hope that was aimed at protecting civilians and combatting Houthi aggression as well as other acts of terrorism.
