Saudi Arabia sets submission date for 3,780MW power plant

23 November 2015

Integrated solar combined-cycle plant will be one of the kingdom’s largest power generation facilities

Saudi Electricity Company has set a deadline of 30 December for technical submissions for the planned 3,780MW integrated solar and combined-cycle power plant (ISCC) in Taiba in the western Medina region of the kingdom.

MEED reported in September that SEC was moving ahead with plans for the 3,780MW Taiba ISCC.

The plant will contain a combined-cycle capacity of 3,600MW as well as a 180MW solar component. It will be one of the largest generation facilities in the kingdom, and will cost upwards of $3bn to build.

According to sources in the kingdom’s power sector, SEC is procuring and tendering the Taiba project using the same model it employed for the Duba 1 ISCC, for which the EPC contract was recently awarded.

Consultants are currently working on bids for the owner’s engineer contract on the Taiba project.

The submission date for owner’s engineer bids is 30 November, although this is likely to be extended due to consultants requesting additional time as a result of the large capacity of the planned Taiba scheme.
