Deal covers natural gas liquids project in Empty Quarter

Saudi Aramco has awarded a contract to provide front-end engineering and design (Feed) and project management services for a natural gas liquids (NGL) project at its Shaybah field in Rub al-Khali (Empty Quarter).

The state energy giant selected US contractor KBR, which has been the frontrunner to win the award since the August bid deadline (MEED 18:9:09).

Canadian contractor SNC Lavalin won a similar contract on 21 September for the Wasit gas development programme in the Eastern Province (MEED 21:9:09).

The US firm will help develop design, layout, equipment and material specifications, prepare bid packages and develop an estimate for the construction of several projects related to Shaybah’s NGL facilities.

KBR will also assist Aramco in managing and directing the work related to other Shaybah projects. Work on the project will begin in October.

The contract at Shaybah covers the installation of a natural gas liquids recovery facility (MEED 17:7:09).

Gas for the facilities will come from the Shaybah field. Aramco estimates the field holds 14.3 billion barrels of crude oil reserves and 25 trillion cubic feet of associated gas.
