State oil giant gauges interest from engineering contractors to develop the onshore side of the Marjan Field Development project

Saudi Aramco has issued a Solicitation of Interest (SOI) for onshore works at its mega Marjan Field Development project.

According to regional projects tracker MEED Projects, Aramco is gauging interest from a number of international engineering contractors, including Italy’s Saipem and Spain’s Intecsa.

The entire value of the project is estimated to be $2bn.

The invitation to bid (ITB) for the Marjan onshore project is scheduled to be issued in July. Aramco is yet to decide however if it wants to issue the ITB for the project as a single package or five separate packages, and it is understood that Aramco will take a call based on the response it receives for the SOIs.

Australia’s WorleyParsons is the front-end engineering design (Feed) contractor, while the UK’s Amec Foster Wheeler is both a Feed contractor and the project management consultant.

Should Aramco offer the onshore contract in five packages, the following are expected to be the jobs:

  • Onshore oil facilities
  • Inlet, storage and compression facilities
  • Gas treatment and sulphur recovery
  • NGL recovery and fractionation facilities:-

- T72 NGL pre-conditioning and treatment

- T72 NGL recovery unit

- Deethanizer.

- Depropanizer and butane treatment

- RVP column and pentane.

- Decolonzer and colour bodies.

- Refrigeration system.

- NGL unit substation SS4/SS5/SS14

  • Utilities, flare and piperack.

The main project contract award is expected to be awarded by year-end, while Aramco has set a project completion and commissioning deadline of 2021-end.

Aramco is also developing the offshore side of the Marjan Field Development in parallel, and MEED has reported about the state oil giant awarding the first offshore package by February-end.
