Saudi authorities seize missiles

04 September 2003
Authorities in Saudi Arabia announced on 4 September that they had successfully seized a lorry-load of surface-to-air missiles. The weapons, said to be heading for an unnamed terrorist group, were captured in late August near the western port city of Jeddah, and had been smuggled from Yemen.

The Kingdom is currently waging a 'ruthless war against terror,' according to Saudi Foreign Affairs Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal. The authorities have arrested over 200 people since the Riyadh compound bombings on 13 May that killed 34 (MEED 23:5:03).
