Saudi Binladin awarded mega prison deal

17 March 2006

Saudi Binladin Group (SBG) has been awarded the estimated SR 6,000 million ($1,600 million) design and build contract for nine prisons and related infrastructure (MEED 4:11:05).

Under the contract, SBG will construct the prisons, administration buildings, car parks and related facilities across the kingdom. The award came after four firms - SBG, Almabani General Contractors, Saudi Oger and El-Seif Engineering Contracting Establishment - submitted revised bids in early November.

Nominated subcontractors will carry out the specialist packages. The project, to be carried out on a fast-track basis, will be completed in 12 months. The client is the Interior Ministry.
