Gas demand growing, but Saudi Arabia making efforts to curb consumption
Saudi Aramco has said that gas demand in the kingdom is growing 5 per cent to 6 per cent annually but the country is making efforts to try to curb domestic consumption, Reuters has reported. “There is a lot of effort in adopting energy efficient programmes to curtail demand,” Ahmed al-Sa’adi, vice president of gas operations at Aramco said when asked about what could contribute to a drop in demand. Saudi is raising gas production from non-associated gas fields to cater for rising domestic demand which has been growing by 7 per cent annually in recent years due to an economic boom fuelled by the oil price rally.
