Saudi population growth stresses public infrastructure

07 April 2015

The kingdom’s young population has expectations around housing and social infrastructure that will require major investment programmes

Saudi Arabia’s energy needs are huge, and with a growing, young population power requirements will increase to support investments in social housing developments, and infrastructure such as schooling, hospitals and public transport.

David Clifton, regional development director, at Faithful+Gould, expects work on infrastructure projects to not just continue, but accelerate again in the mid-term future, particularly around conventional power projects.

“These are such huge programmes they are going to require a massive amount of resource, a very integrated supply chain and a very on-board nature to main contracting to deliver at the speed that’s required by the government as the population continues to grow,” says Clifton.

He also provides an update on project work in Qatar and the UAE, including the Atlantis extension on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah.
