Saudi-Russian oil deal given go-ahead

12 August 2003
Officials in Riyadh gave the go-ahead on 12 August for an oil co-operation accord with Russia. The accord will be signed during Crown Prince Abdullah's upcoming visit to Russia, said an AFP report.

Saudi Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister, Ali Naimi, was mandated to sign a draft agreement on co-operation in the oil and gas sectors with Russia, reported the official Saudi Press Agency. The agreement will be signed by Abdullah on a September visit to Moscow.

The oil deal will be the first of at least four co-operation agreements to be signed during the visit.
