Sembcorp evaulates cost of expanding Fujairah 1

22 July 2008
Singapore’s Sembcorp is evaluating quotes from consultants for the project to expand the capacity of the Fujairah 1 independent water and power project.

The successful consultant will carry out a feasibility study for the scheme which will add 30 million gallons a day (g/d) capacity to the plant.

According to a source at Semcorp, the study will be launched within the next month and will be completed before the end of 2008.

If the extension is found to be feasible, the project will be tendered as an engineering, procurement and construction contract.

Fujairah 1 will have capacity of 760MW of power and 100 million g/d of water by 2009. The proposed extension will increase water production to 130 million g/d.
