Seven line up for museum contract

Qatar Petroleum (QP)is evaluating bids from seven local and international contractors for the main package on the Museum of Islamic Arts project. The client is expected to award the estimated $140 million contract in mid-late April (MEED 5:3:04).

The bidders are understood to include Turkey's Baytur Construction & Contracting Company, US-based Contrack International, Bahrain's Cebarco, Cyprus-based Joannou & Paraskevaides (J&P), Japan's Taiseiand Construction Development Company (CDC) and Midmac Contracting Company, both local.

The contract covers foundations, structures, finishings and mechanical, electrical and plumbing works on the striking five-storey structure, which will be located opposite the Finance Ministry building. IMP Architectsof the US is the design consultant; the construction manager is the US' Turner Internationalwith Kuwait's Projacs(MEED 5:3:04; 26:9:03).
