Seven line up for QP's gas pipeline

27 February 2004
Seven local and international companies have submitted bids for the engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning (EPIC) contract on the estimated $110 million Ras Laffan-Mesaieed gas pipeline project. The client, Qatar Petroleum (QP), is expected to award the contract in two-three months.

The bidders are: the UAE's Al-Jaber Energy Services; Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Company; India's Dodsal; Cyprus-based Joannou & Paraskevaides; the local Medgulf Construction Company; Sharjah-based Petrofac International, with Punj Lloyd, also of India; and Turkey's Tekfen.

QP has already selected National Pipe Company of Saudi Arabia to supply the pipe, which will be assigned to the successful EPIC bidder. The 36-month contract calls for the construction of a 120-kilometre-long, 36-inch-diameter pipeline (MEED 30:1:04).

The front-end engineering and design (FEED) contractor was Worleyof Australia.
